Evangeline Lilly says she’s walking away from acting

Lost Alumna Evangeline Lilly says she’s ready to quit acting – for now. In an Instagram post, Lilly wrote in part: “Moving away from what seems like an obvious choice (wealth and fame) can sometimes seem scary, but stepping into your dharma replaces fear with fulfillment.” Maybe I’ll return to Hollywood one day, but for now, this is where I belong. A new season is here, and I’M READY…and I’M HAPPY.

Lilly added, “I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision.”

The post was accompanied by a video of the actress recorded on the set of the ABC phenomenon Lost, which ran from 2004 to 2010. In the video (watch it below), Lilly answers a question about where she sees herself in 10 years. “I’m terrified to admit it to the rest of the theater world,” she said at the time, “but ideally, in 10 years, I’d like to be a retired actress and I’d like start a family…and potentially…influence people’s lives in a more humanitarian way.

The post also includes an excerpt of poet Maya Angelou reflecting on being “in progress” and the inevitability of death. “If you know that’s the big deal… then you might as well try to do other wonderful things.”

Lilly commented that Angelou “perfectly” expressed how she feels about life.

Lilly recently starred in the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, reprising her role as Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She began her career in the early 2000s and also has credits such as The Hurt Locker And The Hobbit movies The desolation of Smaug And The Battle of the Five Armies.
