Evacuation orders expand for Eaton Fire in Altadena

Evacuation orders are in place for areas in Altadena, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Sierra Madre after a fast-moving brush fire broke out at 6:12 p.m. Tuesday. The fire is now estimated at 1,000 acres and quickly burned near Eaton Canyon in Altadena as firefighting resources were stretched thin on a night that’s expected to see the worst of the Santa Ana-fueled windstorm.

According to authorities, the fire started near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, and quickly grew. The out of control fire burning down homes as many people quickly left in their cars and on foot.

Pasadena Unified School District has announced that schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 8, due to winds and fire.

All Arcadia Unified Schools will be closed tomorrow as well. The district will have an update tomorrow by 3 p.m. in regard to the rest of the week.

  • Kinneloa Canyon Road
  • Outpost Lane
  • Glen Springs
  • Coolidge
  • Miranda
  • Roosevelt
  • Veranda
  • Kenclare
  • Foxridge
  • Canyon Close
  • Grand Oak

Mandatory evacuations also in effect for the area north of Orange Grove/Rosemead Boulevard, east of Lake Avenue, and west of Michillinda Avenue.

All residents living north of Sierra Madre, east of Allen and west of Santa Anita Drive are under an evacuation order.

Mandatory evacuations are also in place north of New York Drive, east of Altadena Drive, and west of Sierra Madre Villa Avenue.

Parking is available at the parking structure across the street, at 155 E. Green St.

Humane society is collecting small animals who have to be sheltered elsewhere.

Closures
