European Union Commission says ‘the future is queer’

A Twitter account run by the European Commission marked the start of Pride month in June by declaring “the future is queer” and promoting a new campaign.

The ‘European Youth’ Twitter account, which said it was run by the European Commission, wrote on Wednesday: ‘No two people are the same, we are all unique. Each of us is the result of our own values, dreams, ambitions and talents.

“In this Pride, we want to affirm our singularities because, combined, they make us stronger. This month, follow #TheFutureIsQueer. And be proud,” the account added, alongside a photo indicating “The future is queer.”

The same position was carried out by the European Union program for education, youth, training and sport Erasmus+, as well as the EU program for the culture and media sectors Creative Europe.

According to another Posting on Twitter of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, a doctoral and postdoctoral training program, the “Future is Queer” posts are linked to a new campaign, although the exact details of the campaign remain unclear, beyond calling out Twitter users to follow the Future is the hashtag Queer.

The campaign comes as countries across Europe and beyond mark June as Pride Month, with many rainbow pride flags, including the US Embassy in the Vatican, which has said she would be flying the rainbow flag all month.

The U.S. Embassy will fly the flag for the second year in a row and said on Twitter, “The United States respects and promotes the equality and human dignity of all people, including the LGBTQIA+ community.”

While some fly the traditional rainbow flag, others, such as Dublin LGBTQ+ Pride, have added significantly to the rainbow flag, including colors meant to represent not just LGBT people but other people. other marginalized groups. This year, Dublin Pride even went so far as to add the colors of the Ukrainian flag to its pride flag to show its support for the country.
