Earlier this week, Politico reported that the EU was considering the ban on new Russian fossil fuel contracts as part of its long -awaited roadmap.
The plan was delayed for weeks in the middle of geopolitical uncertainty after the merger of US President Donald Trump with the Kremlin. Von der Leyen previously welcomed the suggestion to buy more American gas to help eliminate Russian expeditions.
“These energy partnerships, including imports of liquefied natural gas from the United States, are of strategic importance to the European Union,” she added, while creating a renewable power as having helped to break Moscow’s workforce.
Meanwhile, the risk of Russian sabotage and cyber attacks against energy infrastructure is increasing, demanding more cross-border cooperation with countries like Great Britain.
“We are developing capacities to protect the cables below critical,” said Von Der Leyen. “We are open and ready to share our experiences and cooperate on this subject with strategic partners.”
