Euro 2024 explained IN FULL: Dates, fixture schedule, UK kick-off times, stadiums and groups for showpiece tournament in Germany

Euro 2024 is fast approaching as Germany prepares to host the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship.

Because Euro 2020 was delayed and the Qatar World Cup moved to last winter, the international soccer calendar has been more condensed than ever.

Italy are the reigning European champions after beating England on penalties at Wembley.

And that means the next euros are already fast approaching.

Germany is set to host the 2024 edition of UEFA’s flagship international tournament and is ready to welcome the rest of Europe.

The event will take place this summer, at the end of the 2023/24 domestic season, so that the Premier League and other major European divisions can operate normally.

England will be among the favorites for glory after making it through qualifying, while Scotland will also be in attendance at the showpiece tournament.

Euro 2024 dates

There will be 51 matches at the tournament and football will begin on Friday June 14 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

The opening match sees hosts Germany take on Steve Clarke’s Scotland.

The group stage will then continue until Wednesday June 26, with the knockout stage scheduled for Saturday June 29.

Euro 2024 will last one month, with the final taking place on Sunday July 14 at the 70,000-capacity Olympiastadion in Berlin.

There will be round of 16 matches before the quarter-finals between the top two teams from the six groups.

And they will be joined by the four best third-placed teams to form the round of 16.

The round of 16 then progresses to the final and there will be no play-off for third place at Euro 2024.

Euro 2024: The sites

This edition of UEFA’s biggest international tournament will take place in Germany and ten stadiums have been selected.

Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park (BVB Stadion Dortmund), with a capacity of 66,000, will be one of these venues.

Schalke, Dortmund’s close neighbor, will also see the Veltins Arena (Arena AufSchalke) used.

Few stadiums are close to each other, but Germany has a superb rail network which will ensure that traveling to each stadium will not be difficult.

Euro 2024: how did Germany win the tournament?

Germany won this edition of the Euros in 2018 after 17 members of the UEFA executive committee voted for the three-time winner against Turkey.

The vote took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, and it will be the first time an event has been held since 1988.

Germany has state-of-the-art infrastructure and minimal work will be required before the tournament, which is the main reason why Turkey lost.

But Turkey’s poor human rights record was also taken into account.

Germany therefore appeared to be the obvious choice for UEFA’s flagship international competition.

Euro 2024: Weather and kick-off times

The weather in Germany in June and July is very similar to that of the UK, with the average temperature in Berlin in summer being between 16°C and 22°C.

The weather should therefore not be a problem for players or supporters.

Kick-off times for the majority of matches have not yet been confirmed, but we do know when the opening group match will kick off.

Kick-off at the Allianz Arena is at 9 p.m. Paris time, which is 8 p.m. UK time.

The semi-finals and final are also scheduled to start at 8 p.m. in the UK.
