Somewhere above the Atlantic, a sparkling private jet gifted by Qatar rises, while EU leaders experience a desire for severe altitude on earth.
According to ABC News, the Trump administration could be about to replace its Air Force One plane with a luxury Boeing 747-8 Jumbo Jew, graciousness of the state of Qatar. Although the Gulf country says that the agreement is not yet final, the gift would obviously be the best way to commemorate that Donald Trump, Donald Trump, made Saudi Arabia during his first mandate.
The Donald will probably have the plane upgraded with golden letters spelled “Air Force” and a diet coke button under each seat before being able to take off.
But on the other side of the pond, European politicians flee. Not because of ethical questions, or his absence – we have exceeded this at this stage – but because it was they who had to undergo a parliamentary investigation of the EU who gives to think for a scandal linked to Qatar; And what should they show for that? A simple Louis Vuitton bag stuffed in money – peanuts!
It really doesn’t seem fair. Qatargate involved many bad press and even a few nights in prior detention to certain deputies: the money they would have barely received. How can Donny use the jet during his duties, then see him make a donation to his foundation of the presidential library after the end of his second visit to the White House?
The reports according to which the president of the Ursula von der Leyen commission is considering a “strategic reserve reaction survey” to ensure equal distribution of gifts related to aviation among all member countries is not confirmed at the time of the press.
But we can say with certainty – or guess – that Viktor Orbán, Hungary, called Doha by asking to know why his boyfriend Donny had an airplane while he is still driving Wizz Air. After all, is it not the closest thing that Europe has a large leader who likes to cry out to the press while wearing oversized costumes?
Back in Brussels, the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, could match the response of Queen Ursula by launching her own internal examination on “the inequality of gifts” and “transatlantic favoritism”. Not to say that it wants a jet, but if jets are distributed by the Gulf monarchies, Europe should not be left out.
Qatari officials, for their part, seem to refuse accusations of favoritism. Trump’s jet is not an agreement made, and even if it was, it would certainly not be a bridge pot linked to lobbying, foreign policy or the sudden appearance of a golf course in the suburbs of Doha called “Mar-A-Dunes”. It’s just their version of calling to say that I love you.
And Europe is once again at the earth.
