Erik ten Hag has challenged Harry Maguire to bring his English form back to Manchester United.
The centre-back was brilliant for the Three Lions in Qatar and was arguably one of the best defenders at the World Cup.
His performances stand in stark contrast to that of this season with the Premier League side, where he lost his place in the starting XI.
Now his manager says he will have the opportunity to show this form when he returns.
The £80million captain will enjoy a week off after England’s quarter-final exit against France, with United returning to action against Nottingham Forest on December 27.
Maguire is likely to start this game as Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are still involved in the World Cup with Argentina and France respectively.
Even if they lose in the semi-finals this week, they will still have the third-place play-off to contend with.
When asked if he would consider selling Maguire, Ten Hag replied, “Only when he doesn’t want to be in those circumstances anymore. Until then, I’m happy with him.
“I can only support him. It’s clear he’s good enough to play at the highest level. Then it’s up to him to show that confidence on the pitch, and he hasn’t shown it in every game.
“He had a period in Manchester where he performed poorly and then, of course, there are difficulties. For England, he has good games almost all the time.
“We want him to bring that back to Manchester with him so he can bring it onto the pitch for Manchester United. I expect from him and the team knows what they expect from him. If he does that, he will be a great player for us.
“I think he had a really good World Cup. He was really consistent. When he plays with his confidence like now, he’s a hugely important player for us and that’s what everyone expects.
“That’s what Harry expects of himself, so it’s up to him.” I’m sure he has the potential to play in our style and fit into our system.
“There are laws of the game in top-level football, you have to take your chances. He will have a chance to show it and then he will be in the game and he will play.
