But Ten Hag fought back after the Red Devils were widely condemned for almost spoiling the match, having led 3-0 with 20 minutes remaining.

United were heavily criticized by pundits and fans, with Jamie Carragher claiming the manner of play was so poor it would cost the Dutchman his job.

Asked if he understood the answer during a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Sheffield United, the fiery Ten Hag replied: “No, absolutely not.

“Football is about results. We reached the final and we deserved it.

“We lost control for 20 minutes and ended up being very lucky, but we reached the final. It’s a huge achievement.

“The reaction from you (the media) has been embarrassing. Twice (two FA Cup finals) in two years is magnificent.

“For me as a manager, four cup finals in four years. The comments are a shame.

This isn’t the first time Ten Hag has lashed out at the media, walking out of his press conference earlier this month after refusing to answer a question.

Graeme Souness shares his fears over Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho, like some of their other young stars, for having ‘too much, too soon’

This included Antony, who was spotted goading Coventry players, but Ten Hag insisted the Brazilian was provoked first.

“He (Antony) was (provoked) and should not react like this,” he said.

“You didn’t see the provocation, only the reaction, but he shouldn’t do it.

“We have to recognize Coventry’s performance, coming back in the 70th minute when we were dominating the game.

“The match must be closed, but the return of their team was very good.”
