Eric Gordon agrees to sign one-year contract with the Sixers – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Eric Gordon has agreed to sign a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Sixers, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia Sunday night.

Shams Charania of The Athletic first reported Gordon’s deal, and Kyle Neubeck of PHLY Sports first reported he was joining the Sixers on a minimum contract.

The 35-year-old guard spent his prime with the Rockets while current Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey was general manager. He won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2016-17 season and averaged 15.7 points in 379 games with Houston.

Gordon is a high-volume three-point shooter and capable secondary ball handler. He averaged 11.0 points, 2.0 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game last season for the Suns, shooting 37.8 percent from long range on 5.8 attempts per game.

Overall, he remained an effective scorer; Gordon has been at or above the league average in points per shot attempt in every season of his career, besides the 2019-20 campaign, according to Cleaning the Glass.

Gordon declined his Suns player option to become a free agent. The Sixers still have plenty of roster spots to fill, but Morey is intent on building a competitive team and always welcomes players who play around Joel Embiid, the league’s all-time great.

In addition to Gordon, the Sixers reached an agreement with Andre Drummond and agreed to a new contract with Kelly Oubre Jr. on the opening night of free agency.
