Epic games’ hyperrealist metahuman characters are really impressive, and now the company facilitates developers to integrate them into their projects. During his unreal emission on Tuesday, Epic announced that the Métahuman designer is now anchored in a Unreal engine as part of Unreal Engine 5.6.
The company also brings its writing tools for the faces of metahumans to bodies, which means that developers will be able to create faces and bodies with refined parameters for their games or applications. Developers will also be able to sell their metahumans on the fabulous Epic market for digital assets, so that they can be used in other games or projects.
On stage, Epic has shown how metahuman tools could be used to animate a character in real time – and just using a consumer webcam to capture the actor’s facial movements. It was pretty cool.
Epic also has new license options that allow metahumans to be used with other game development engines or creative software. This means that creators will be able to use metahumans in rival development platforms like Unity and Godot and in creative software such as Maya, Houdini and Blender.
