England take the knee as the USA team remain standing at the World Cup

[ad_1]
True to their word, the British team took a knee before their game against the United States men’s national team at the World Cup in Qatar. But many comment on the remarkable fact that the American team remained standing.
Last weekend, England signaled that its players intended to take a knee in protest against Iran’s continued oppression of its LGBTQ community, its recent assaults on women, not to mention the strict islamic sharia suppressing its people.

Some supporters of England’s act of taking a knee found the incident surprising, as taking a knee in protest was invented in the United States, but the USA team did not kneeling on Friday.
Social media users were shocked by the USA team’s decision not to kneel with their British opponents.
Incredible and disappointing to see that everything @England kneel down against racism, @USMNT does not do the same. @WorldCupFR pic.twitter.com/7bbZjkR8nr

So England took the knee, a gesture adopted after the death of American George Floyd, and the American team did not. Anyone else think this is a bit of a joke?!

England goes down on one knee: not the Americans. Recolonize them, I say

England take a knee to raise awareness of discrimination around the world and the USA team showed a lack of solidarity when they failed to do so.

Yet others saw the act as just another example of empty virtue signaling:
Surprising.
England ‘take the knee’ for BLM,
And American players are looking back to where the movement started, to say ‘WTF are you doing a lot?!’ 😂
Wave your virtue signal guys… nobody sees through it, honestly….

Ever seen anything more ridiculous?
Violent career criminal George Floyd was killed by a rogue cop in the United States. The knee grip begins.
Several years later, England were about to kick off against the United States.
Not a single American player kneels.

FOR THE FIRST TIME I SAY IT. I AM ASHAMED OF THE ENGLAND TEAM… They are coming home, very soon

Admittedly, England’s kneeling is rather empty compared to the actual members of the Iranian squad, all of whom risked serious punishment from their country’s leaders for refusing to sing the Iranian national anthem during of the World Cup.
Iranian players have risked prison, even torture and execution by speaking out against their own country’s civil rights abuses.
Compared to that, England’s kneeling looks a bit less prominent.
