President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Roubaix (North) on Thursday to pay tribute to the three young police officers killed in a collision on Sunday with a vehicle whose driver was heavily alcoholic and drugged, the Elysee announced on Wednesday.
“This accident took place during a rescue intervention for victims, which illustrates the heart of the mission incumbent on them. An everyday mission where the police intervene to protect the French, ”explained the presidency. Emmanuel Macron will meet the families and colleagues of the three victims for a tribute at the National Police School in Roubaix.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the police, two 25-year-old men and a 24-year-old woman were traveling with a flashing light on the RD700, near Villeneuve-d’Asq, when they were hit around 7 a.m. in a frontal impact by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction. Its 24-year-old driver also died instantly.
Two people were seriously injured, including a 16-year-old girl whom the three police officers transported to the Lille medico-judicial unit as part of an investigation opened for an assault during the night.
An investigation has been opened for homicides and involuntary injuries.
