Eminem Announces Release Date for New Album The Death of Slim Shady

Eminem has announced the release date of his first new album since 2020 Music to be murdered and his companion, Music to be Murdered By – Side B (Deluxe Edition). The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) is out Friday, July 12. Below, find a trailer for the album.

Eminem recently returned with the single “Houdini.” He plans to release another new song, “Tobey,” today.

In May, Eminem introduced his album with an obituary for his alter ego, Slim Shady, in a print edition of Detroit Free Press“A Detroit native, Shady began his career in the city as a rebellious member of the thriving underground rap scene of the mid-to-late 1990s. He rose to fame in 1999 with the release of his unhinged and upbeat single “My Name Is,” which, along with its catchy and unique video, introduced the young artist and his lyrics to a wider audience,” the eulogy reads. “That audience was quickly exposed to the muse/rapper’s extreme darkness as he led millions of fans down a path that glorified a blatantly nihilistic worldview.”

The obituary, titled “Slim Shady left lasting impressions,” continues:

Ultimately, the objects that seemed like the tools he used became calling cards defining an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrible end. His complex and tortured existence has come to an end, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to being resolved than the manner in which this character left this world.

May he truly find the peace in the afterlife that he could not find on Earth.

Eminem released his first, and so far only, EP, Slim Shady EPin December 1997. A little over a year later, in February 1999, he released Slim Shady’s LPfeaturing a few tracks from the EP (notably “Just Don’t Give a Fuck”) and the hit single “My Name Is.” Much of the album, as the title suggests, is presented from Slim Shady’s perspective. In 2019, to celebrate the LP’s 20th anniversary, Eminem released an expanded edition of Slim Shady’s LP. And the following year, the rapper teamed up with Kid Cudi for “The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady.”
