Elon Musk said on Saturday that he would like to see a “zero-tail” system between the United States and Europe, a few days after President Donald Trump implemented “reciprocal” basic rates on dozens of business partners.
“I hope that it is agreed that Europe and the United States should ideally move, in my opinion, to a zero-tail situation, effectively creating a free trade area between Europe and North America,” Musk told the Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini practically at a meeting of the Italian League party. “This is what I hope to happen.”
As part of Trump’s latest price plan, which he announced last week on what he called “Liberation Day”, the European Union, which includes Italy, will be subject to a tariff rate of 20%.
Musk was one of Trump’s second most consecutive figures with his plethora of costs to reduce costs related to the White House Doge office.
During the speech, Musk also said that he would like to see increased freedom for individuals to move between Europe and North America.
“If people want to work in Europe or wish to work in North America, they should be allowed to do so, in my opinion,” he said. “It was certainly my advice to the president.”
