American companies had already rushed to donate large sums to Donald Trump’s record inaugural fund. Now, some of its leaders appear eager to seek important positions in next week’s inauguration.
It’s another reminder that for some of the country’s biggest companies, building close ties with a president-elect who promises hard-hitting policies like tariffs is a priority this time around.
Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg are expected to be on the inauguration stage, according to NBC News, alongside Elon Musk and several cabinet picks.
Musk’s presence comes as no surprise, given the Tesla chief’s significant support and enormous influence over Trump. But other tech moguls have only more recently been seen as supporters of the administration. (Indeed, Bezos often sparred with Trump during his first presidential term.)
This is the latest effort by Bezos and Zuckerberg to burnish their Trump reputation. At the DealBook summit in December, Bezos — whose Amazon has faced increased scrutiny under the Biden administration and whose Blue Origin hopes to win government rocket contracts — said he had “a lot of hope » regarding Trump’s efforts to cut regulations.
And Zuckerberg recently announced significant changes to Meta’s content moderation policy, including a loosening of speech restrictions seen as protecting groups including LGBTQ people, which have received praise from Trump and other conservatives. Regarding the inauguration, Zuckerberg is also co-hosting a reception alongside longtime Trump supporters Miriam Adelson, Tilman Fertitta and Todd Ricketts.
