The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, shared on social media Thursday that he and the next richest person on the planet, Jeff Bezos, have apparently made amends, as the billionaires, often at odds, oversee both launched rockets at their respective private aerospace companies this week, a month after the couple had dinner together at Mar-a-Lago.

Getty ImagesMusk began the interaction with an early morning post on his X social media platform, congratulating Bezos on the successful launch of his company Blue Origin, which sent Bezos’ company’s New Glenn rocket into orbit.
After Amazon founder Bezos wished Musk good luck Thursday afternoon for his company SpaceX’s Starship rocket launch scheduled for later Thursday, Musk began his meme-filled love fest.
Musk shared some clips from the 2008 comedy “Step Brothers,” which stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as middle-aged men who initially clash after being forced to live together after their parents’ marriage, before tying the knot.
Musk shared a scene from the film in which Ferrell’s character asks Reilly, “Did we just become best friends?” “, which Musk said was the “perfect meme” for him and Bezos’ relationship.
Musk also reposted a clip from the famous climactic scene from the film “Catalina Wine Mixer” in which the actors perform a musical number, which Musk said was “real footage” of him and Bezos, and a photo of him and Bezos together in 2004, when Amazon was worth less than $20 billion before Tesla went public.
Musk’s net worth of $426 billion is about $190 billion more than Bezos’ $235 billion, according to our latest estimates. Nearly 90% of Bezos’ fortune comes from his roughly 10% stake in Amazon, while Musk’s net worth comes from his major holdings in SpaceX, generative artificial intelligence startup xAI and automaker Tesla, its most famous company.
Musk’s affair with Bezos comes less than two months after he lashed out at Bezos for allegedly “telling everyone” that President-elect Donald Trump would lose the 2024 election and that he would “sell out all their Tesla and SpaceX shares” as a result, claims Bezos denied as “100%” false. The often good-natured tensions between the centibillionaires go back years, as Musk joked to Forbes in 2021 that he planned to send Bezos a silver medal after he overtook the Amazon chairman as as the richest person in the world. Bezos, Musk and Trump met at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort last month. Bezos, Musk and the world’s third-richest person, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, are all reportedly sitting together at Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
Bezos isn’t the first billionaire to earn the nickname Musk’s best friend. In a November 1 post, Musk wrote that he was “happy to be first friend” to Trump.
