‘Elevated fire risk’ present for Chicago area to start new week – NBC Chicago

Temperatures will rise Monday in the Chicago area, but these readings could come with an elevated risk of fires in the region.

High temperatures Monday are expected to rise into the mid-60s, according to forecast models, but gusty winds and low dew points could bring a “high fire danger” to the area.

Dew points Sunday only reached 20 degrees, with humidity at 26% at Chicago Midway Airport, officials said.

On Monday we will likely see the same thing, but with stronger winds, with gusts up to 25 miles per hour coming from the southeast.

Residents are urged to practice fire safety on Monday, avoiding burning if possible.

The fire danger will begin to dissipate late Monday and Tuesday, with scattered showers and increasing humidity across the region, forecast models show.

Temperatures will drop midweek, with readings in the mid to upper 40s in Chicago on Wednesday and temperatures climbing into the low 50s in the suburbs. Highs will likely climb back into the 60s by Friday and into the 70s by Saturday, forecast models show.
