The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, the Election Commission announced on Monday (October 6). The result will be announced on November 14.

The mandate of the assembly of 243 member states ends on November 22.

The EC said 121 seats would go to polls in phase 1 and 122 constituencies would vote in phase 2.

Phase 1:

Date of publication of the notification in the Official Journal: October 10
Deadline for submission of applications: October 17
Application review date: October 18
Deadline for withdrawal of applications: October 20
Polling date: November 6
Counting date: November 14

Phase 2:

Date of publication of the notification in the Official Journal: October 13

Deadline for submission of applications: October 20
Application review date: October 21
Deadline for withdrawal of applications: October 23
Polling date: November 11
Counting date: November 14

Over 7.4 crore people will exercise their right to vote, including 14 lakh first-time voters, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said. “There are a total of 7.42 crore voters in Bihar, including 3.92 crore males and 3.5 crore females. There are 14 lakh first-time voters and 4 lakh senior voters,” Kumar said.

At least 14,000 voters in the state are over 100 years old.

The CEC asserted that the elections in Bihar would be held in a transparent and peaceful manner.

A total of 90,712 polling stations are being set up in Bihar, he said.

The 2020 assembly elections in the state were held in three phases, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The BJP-led NDA won 123 seats and the Mahagathbandhan 114 seats in a closely contested contest.

This time again, the state would witness a bitter fight between the two major alliances.

Over 500 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), comprising over 5,000 personnel, will be deployed for the Bihar elections. Of these, 121 companies belong to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and around 400 belong to the Border Security Force (BSF), along with contingents of other CAPFs, ANI sources cited.
