Eight-year-old schoolboy killed after being hit by car in horror crash in quiet Wiltshire cul-de-sac

An eight-year-old schoolboy has died after being hit by a car in a quiet Wiltshire cul-de-sac.

Emergency services were called to the crash in Woodland View, Dilton Marsh, at 4.30pm on Saturday.

The incident, which led to the closure of a quiet rural village road last night, involved a vehicle and the young boy who was walking in the area.

The tragic scene saw the Wiltshire Air Ambulance rush to the road alongside 999 other responders, but despite their best efforts he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The little boy’s family has been informed and is being looked after by a specialist agent.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision at Woodland View, Dilton Marsh, at 4.30pm on Saturday.

A man in his thirties is being questioned, police said, as “is usual in these circumstances”.

Tributes flooded social media this morning, with many paying tribute to the boy’s family.

One wrote: “What sad news… fly high little man… sending hugs and love to family and friends on this sad occasion.”

Another said: “This is really, really sad. I send my thoughts to his family at this incredibly horrible time.

“Rest in heaven handsome boy, thoughts are with the family,” added a third, while a fourth wrote: “My condolences to the family, this is so tragic to read.”

The devastating collision happened at Dilton Marsh on the hottest day of the year so far.

The quiet village has a local pub, called The Prince of Wales, a nursery and primary school and a parents and toddlers group.

Woodland View is a small cul-de-sac with a few new houses backing onto a large lot. It is a short walk from the primary and preparatory school.

“Our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time,” a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said.

“A man in his thirties is being questioned, as is usual in these circumstances,” they added.
