New Delhi:

President Droupadi Murmu said on Sunday that efforts must be made to change the “culture of adjournments” in courts to ensure speedy justice.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary, she said the length of court cases is a big challenge for “all of us”.

“Every effort must be made to change the culture of adjournments in the courts,” she said.

President Murmu said that all judges in the country have the responsibility to protect justice.

She said the stress levels of ordinary people increase in courtrooms, a phenomenon she dubbed “dark court syndrome,” and suggested it be studied.

She also welcomed the increase in the number of female magistrates.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal attended the event. President Murmu also unveiled a flag and insignia of the Supreme Court at the programme held at the Bharat Mandapam here.
