EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Why Meghan’s new podcast hit a problem before it even started

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were damningly described as “fucking crooks” by a Spotify executive hours after announcing their split from the audio giant last year.

So I’m sorry to hear that Meghan’s new deal with a much smaller podcast company is having trouble getting off the ground.

Prince Harry’s wife announced with great fanfare in February that she had signed a deal with Lemonada Media, a women-founded company that wants to “make life less sucky.”

The Duchess, who only produced one series of her Archetypes podcast for Spotify before parting ways with the company, had signed with Lemonada to develop and host a new series.

However, a source tells me that no work should be broadcast this year. “The relaunch of the Meghan’s Archetypes podcast has been postponed until 2025,” indicates the Californian source.

A spokesperson for Meghan declined to comment, but sources say she had a list of “very high-profile guests” scheduled to appear on her new podcasts.

It is understood Lemonada did not want the podcast launch to be overshadowed by the former actress’ TV series, which she began filming at a rented house in Montecito last week. Netflix said the show would “celebrate the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and friendship.”

Lemonada is also said to be concerned that there will also be “scheduling conflicts” between the launch of her podcasts and that of Meghan’s lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.

Guests on her 12-podcast series for Spotify included Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, pop star Mariah Carey and Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell.

Bill Simmons, head of podcast innovation and monetization at Spotify, called the Duke and Duchess “fucking crooks” just hours after their £15million deal was scrapped last summer . The damning putdown is an American term for people “who engage in minor or small-scale fraud.”

He ranted: “I have to get drunk one night and tell the story about the Zoom I had with Harry to try to help him with a podcast idea. This is one of my best stories.

Meghan said in February that she was “excited” to join Lemonada, which describes itself as an “independent, award-winning podcast network with a mission to make life less sucky.”

The couple produced less than 13 hours of content during their three-year partnership: 12 episodes of Meghan’s show Archetypes and a 30-minute Christmas special featuring the Duke and Duchess.

But not so soon…
