Eddie Redmayne is paired with wife Hannah Bagshawe at the 2024 Met Gala

Although this isn’t his first Met Gala rodeo, Redmayne, who was just nominated for a Tony for his turn as host in a revival of Cabaret-was taking advantage of the Broadway tradition of being dark on Monday.

“I hope I wasn’t too lascivious,” he said in response to some praise for his performance. “I kind of interact with some of the audience members.”

But overall, “it’s been wonderful, we’re having a wonderful time. It’s on a loop and there’s this kind of pre-show, where you walk into 52nd Street and get into this whole Republic world from Weimar… The audience are so electric.”

For the evening, however, it was Redmayne and Bagshawe walking through “The Garden of Time,” from this year’s Costume Institute exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” And when they got closer to each other, it was impossible to tell where one outfit ended and the other began, like two flowers planted at the same time that inevitably come together.
