Ed Boon said that there could be “years of content” for Mortal Kombat 1, but unfortunately did not do two years

None

Mortal Kombat 1: final edition was announced earlier this week. Acquire Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition will give players access to the basic game of Mortal Kombat 1, Kombat Pack 1, the extension of Khaos Reigns Story, Kombat Pack 2 and The New Movie Skins.

Fans will be able to recover Mortal Kombat 1: final edition of the PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC series for $ 69.99. The Switch version is a little cheaper because it goes for $ 59.99.

Overall, this is a fairly good deal for those who have not yet bought Mortal Kombat 1. We will probably see a influx of players in the coming days due to the publication of the final editing package.

However, most long -standing fans of Netherrealm Studios games will probably see this as bad news for the future of Mortal Kombat 1. More specifically, it is a heavy indicator that Mortal Kombat 1 no longer has a future.

Similar situations have occurred with the outings of Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, Mortal Kombat XL and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate for Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11 respectively.

Each of these reminders has thrilled all the available post-launch content that had been published to this point. This also meant that Netherrealm Studios would not publish any additional DLC for this game because they had gone to their next project.

The last time with Mortal Kombat 11, the Netherrealm studios had to confirm that DLC had concluded and that the company had passed to its next project. We now know that the project was Mortal Kombat 1 from the start.

“So we were about sure that when we launched Mortal Kombat 1 that we were going to do years of content, and it is the second year.” – Ed Boon

In some ways, it is somewhat disappointing to learn that it is actually the end of the new DLC for Mortal Kombat 1. Shortly after the revelation of Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, Ed Boon mentioned more plans for the future of the game.

“With Mortal Kombat 11, we had Mortal Kombat 11, aftermath, then ultimate,” said Boon on the subject. “So we would continue to add characters and history.”

Netherrealm Studios had this practice where they would be able to create more and more content with additional game versions. Mortal Kombat X had more than DLC than the mortal Kombat 9 while the mortal Kombat 11 had more than the mortal Kombat X.

“This is a bit like the way we make our games now,” said Boon. “So we were about sure that when we launched Mortal Kombat 1 that we were going to do years of content, and it is the second year.”

With hindsight, it looks more like a hope of Ed Boon rather than a promise, especially since he mentioned that the Netherrealm studios were “roughly” that they would do years of content “.

However, it is important to note that Mortal Kombat 1 was originally published on September 14, 2023. Unfortunately, this means that Mortal Kombat 1 experienced less than two years of post-launch content, so it would be more correct to say that it was “season two” for Mortal Kombat 1.

In the end, however, Mortal Kombat 1 ended up having the same number of DLC characters as Mortal Kombat 11 (13 for both if the pre -order bonus characters Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung count both). Of course, it can be said that the six additional Kameo fighters of Mortal Kombat 1 push it a little further.

At this point, it was not downright confirmed that there will be no DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, but given the story of Netherrealm Studios to do so with previous games, it looks like a last nail in the coffin for all hopes. Netherrealm’s studios may not even feel the need to make such an announcement this time because of how fans have reacted to the news.

“It’s not like when we finish a match, we are going” what are we going to do next? “We decided what we were going to do a long time ago.” – Ed Boon

Anyway, this news is in fact not so surprising despite the strange moment. After all, we have heard alleged initiates that Kombat Pack 3 was scheduled at some point, but had been canceled.

It was apparently the direct result of the bad performance of updating Khaos’ reign. If it had sold better, we would probably not get the final editing package yet, and the declaration of Ed Boon “Years of Content” would have proven to be true.

The characters we heard of include Jade, Cassie, Kung Jin, Sonya, Kano and a last guest. We even saw an incomplete rendering from Kung Jin for Mortal Kombat 1, which apparently added an additional validity to these rumors.

That said, we have already heard that Ed Boon himself heard that Netherrealm Studios has already planned his next game for a long time now.

“It’s not like when we finish a match, we are going” what are we going to do next? “We decided what we were going to do a long time ago,” said Boon once on the issue.

Would it finally be time for this remastered Mortal Kombat Mortal Collection? According to Boon, it is a question of “when” and not “if” this collection will never happen.

“One day, the stars will line up and we will get there,” concluded Boon on this subject.

We will just have to wait and see what is the next step for Mortal Kombat and for Netherrealm studios in general.
