EcoFlow’s Power Hat is a flexible solar cover that charges your phone for your head

EcoFlow’s new Power Hat is probably the cheesiest headwear I’ve ever heard of, and I think I love it. It’s a wide-brimmed, floppy sun hat filled with solar cells that you can use to charge your phone. EcoFlow claims it can charge a 4,000mAh smartphone to full capacity “in just 3-4 hours.” It looks perfect for casually scrolling through RSS feeds at a campsite or surviving in a sun-soaked Mad Max desert.

According to EcoFlow’s specifications, the $129 Power Hat’s solar cells are made from a thin, flexible material called passivated emitter and back contact (PERC) monocrystalline silicon. It offers about 12 watts of charging via the USB-A and USB-C connectors located under the brim. The whole thing weighs 370 grams.

Take a look at these hat-mounted USB ports.

Oh, and the Power Hat is IP65 rated, which means it’s dustproof and can withstand jets of water from any direction (although I wonder if that’s true if you point a super sprinkler at the USB ports). Here’s a promo video, complete with an inoffensive, vaguely Kings of Leon soundtrack, which is perfect music for a floppy hat if my past music festival experience is any indication:

The hat comes in two sizes. The smaller size is adjustable between 56 and 58 cm (22 to 22.8 inches) while the larger size is 59 to 61 cm (23.2 to 24 inches). The Power Hat will be available for pre-order until August 31, and EcoFlow plans to start shipping them in mid-September.
