Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed Tuesday afternoon across most of Colorado’s Eastern Plains due towhich are in effect in areas south and east of the Denver metro area. The closure affects drivers who were planning to travel to Kansas from north-central Colorado.
The highway was closed eastbound east of Aurora, from Watkins and almost to the Kansas border.
Joe Helbok, a truck driver, said he had to stop while on I-70 earlier in the day due to blowing snow and low visibility.
“Driving a big truck, we have to watch out for people and cars,” he said. “Slippery conditions. Wind is a big factor.”
There was also a highway closure in both directions in the morning.due to dangerous driving conditions.
Denver is not included in a blizzard warning from the National Weather Service, but conditions are expected to be windy in Denver.
A significant winter storm is affecting not only eastern Colorado, but also parts of Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota.
