Dying Light 2’s New Update Turns It Into a Roguelike, Playable Now

I think Dying Light 2 is set to join the pantheon of video game comeback stories, alongside Cyberpunk 2077, No Man’s Sky, and Final Fantasy 14. When it launched in 2022, the zombie FPS was criticized for being a little too easy, a little too stripped down, and just plain less substantial than its beloved predecessor. However, over the past two years, Techland has transformed the parkour-based survival RPG. Dying Light 2’s massive new update represents the next chapter in an impressive tale of redemption. It transforms the shooter into a brutal roguelike, and you can try it out for yourself today.

Dying Light 2’s new update, Tower Raid, takes inspiration from the original Stay Human’s VNC mission. While still a zombie-killing RPG and FPS, Tower Raid is nonetheless structured as a co-op roguelike. In each game, you and your friends will enter the title’s tower and battle through successive floors containing random collections of monsters and varying loot drops.

The goal, of course, is to reach the roof, but adding to the roguelike style, each run you, your friends, and your undead opponents will have different modifiers. Some of them will have positive status effects. Some of them will make your run more difficult. Regardless, no two runs will be the same.

Starting today, Thursday, June 27, Techland is releasing Tower Raid in stagesThe first version, which you can play right now, includes 12 tower floors and 20 modifiers. The second phase, which arrives on Thursday July 4will add three new floors and ten additional modifiers – there will also be a new “elite mode” which will pit you against tougher enemies but offer much greater rewards.

Finally, Thursday July 11, six additional modifiers and three additional rewards will arrive. Dying Light 2 Tower Raid’s initial testing phase will end on Thursday, July 18, so Techland can “dissect and analyze your feedback.”

To access the tower raid, you need to go to Jai’s board, which can be unlocked via the Lost Armory side quest. In addition to the tower raid, Dying Light 2’s new update also introduces some minor economy shakeups (nearly all sources, including human enemies, will now provide more junk and trophies) and overhauls the interface and menus when accessing cooperative mode. And by the way, Dying Light 2 Reloaded Edition just hit its lowest price ever.
