Dunkin’ to Release 40-Ounce ‘Wicked Lahhhge’ Tumbler in Select Locations

Dunkin’ is launching a new 40-ounce “Wicked Lahhhge” cup just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the company announced in a press release.

“Inspired by the larger-than-life accent heard around our New England playgrounds, Dunkin is launching an all-new 40 oz. The “Wicked Lahhhge” cup, available exclusively at select Dunkin stores nationwide,” the May 20 release said.

“Go big or go home with 40 ounces of your favorite frozen beverage – pour a Dunkin’ Iced Coffee to fuel your morning trips to the farmers’ market, or a Dunkin’ Refresher to keep you cool while sitting poolside “, the company noted.

At 40 ounces, the “Wicked Lahhhge” cup is larger than any single-serve drink the company sells.

The largest cup at Dunkin’ is the 32-ounce “large” for frozen drinks, and the extra-large cup for hot drinks is 24 ounces.

The first Dunkin’ Donuts location was in Quincy, Massachusetts, a town south of Boston, the Dunkin’ website states.

The name of the new cup is a play on the Boston accent, commonly heard throughout northern New England.

“One of the most recognizable features of the Boston accent is the dropping of the R consonant, particularly when it is not followed by a vowel. This phenomenon, known as R-dropping or non-rhoticity, dates back to early English settlers and has persisted in the region, making the Boston accent stand out among other American accents,” said Voices.com, a website for voice actors.

Additionally, the term “nasty” is a well-known Boston slang term equivalent to “very,” Boston.com explains — but it’s unclear how exactly it became popular in the region, the site added.

This is the second time in recent months that Dunkin’ has made a promotion rooted in the sizing of its drinks.

In March, the company briefly renamed its “small” iced coffee to “Short King.”
