New Pelicans Executive vice-president of basketball operations Joe Dumars would not tip his hand on his plans to Zion Williamson.
During his introductory press conference, Dumars said he had several discussions with the often injured franchise of the team but had not revealed any detail, according to Brett Martel of the Associated Press.
“At the League office, I had to talk to Zion several times”, “ said Dumars, who has spent the last three seasons as the NBA executive vice-president and responsible for basketball operations. “I will not enter these conversations. But we have spoken since then, and I spoke to Sion since I became the EVP here, and we had exceptional conversations on the phone. ”
There was a lot of speculation that Williamson could be one of the big names on the commercial market this summer. The former overall choice No. 1 appeared in just 30 games this season, making it the fourth time he played 30 games or less during his six -year career. Williamson, who missed all 2021/22 season, has another three years on his maximum contract.
Dumars, the long-standing president of Piston basketball operations, says he wants to “discover what’s going on” concerning the touch of injuries that have struck alignment in the last two seasons. He also wants a high level of professionalism and commitment throughout the organization. Williamson was suspended a match this season for ranging team policies.
“You must establish standards – and you cannot vacillate these standards,” Said Dumars.
As for the head coach Willie GreenDumars has not yet indicated if he would come back or not, although Green was present at the press conference and that Dumars made him a compliment.
“I know Willie forever – a great man”, Said Dumars.
Originally from Louisiana, Dumars said he was happy with his NBA office work but was convinced to return to his country of origin to relaunch the Pelicans franchise.
“Sometimes the opportunities arise and, you know, the right place, the right time, the right people,” Said Dumars.
