The Ducks will select the 10th row of the NHL recovery next month, which will be held at the Peacock Theater in Live on June 27 to 28.
The Ducks had the eighth NHL record this season this season, but fell two places thanks to the jumps by the New York Icelanders, who will choose the first in the general classification, and Utah HC, which will select fourth, in the recovery lottery on Monday.
“It is always frustrating to fall back to the lottery,” said Ducks Director of Ducks, Pat Verbeek. “We believe that there is a solid group of players who will be available in the top 10 of this project. We are confident with our scouting, we will add a fascinating young player to what we already think is one of the best young players in the NHL.”
It will be the seventh consecutive year of the Ducks which will select itself in the Top 10 of the draft, after having missed the playoffs in each of these campaigns to accumulate the third longer drought of the active playoffs behind Detroit and Buffalo. Four of their six previous choices can now be on the list – Leo Carlsson, Mason MCTAVISH, Pavel Mintyukov and Trevor Zegras – with another in the juniors (the third prospect of last year taken, Beckett Sennecke) and a sixth which was negotiated for an even higher prospective for Cutter Gauther.
During their 31 years of history, the Ducks selected in the top 10 on 17 times, notably Paul Kariya fourth in the general classification of their very first entry draft in 1993.
In this next project, the Ducks have nine choices, one in each of the seven laps and an additional selection for the third and fifth rounds.
The Icelanders have passed nine teams, including the last place San Jose Sharks, by winning the opportunity to have the choice n ° 1.
The Icelanders, which finished 10th in the standings and are in the middle of a change of front-office, did not have a 3.5% chance of winning the lottery. New York has the right to choose first for the fifth time in the history of the team, and first since the selection of John Tavares with choice n ° 1 in 2009.
The San Jose Sharks will choose secondly after entering the day with the best odds, 18.5%, to win the lottery and 25.5% chance of winning the choice n ° 1. San Jose, which finished last for a second consecutive year, sought to become the first NHL team to win the lottery and choose first in the consecutive years.
The Chicago Blackhawks had the second best chances of winning the lottery and will choose third place.
Utah won the second lottery drawing and leap from 14th to fourth under the rules limiting teams to mount a maximum of 10 places in the order of the project.
The lottery took place in NHL network studios in New Jersey and led live for the first time in the 30th anniversary of the event. Previously, the lottery took place shortly before the distribution in front of a limited audience of sequestered observers, followed by the draft selections revealed in the opposite order.
The remaining 14 recovery points will be determined after the playoffs.
