A&E restarts – rebilling? — one of its most popular series of the 2010s with a new iteration of Duck Dynasty.
The new show, titled Duck Dynasty: the rebirthwill once again follow the Robertson family as Willie and Korie Robertson focus on the future of the family business Duck Commander and watch their own children face the challenges of adulthood. A&E has ordered two 10-episode seasons of the series, set to premiere this summer.
The rebirth of Duck Dynasty will debut approximately eight years after the final episode of the original series aired in March 2017 after 11 seasons in five years. The show was A&E’s – and all cable TV’s – biggest unscripted series at its peak, reaching a peak of 11.8 million viewers for the season four premiere in August 2013 (which was part of prime time for cable in the years before streaming). .
“The Robertsons have earned a place in homes across the country with their unique brand of practicality, Southern charm and relatable humor,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive vice president and head of programming for A&E and Lifetime. “Duck Dynasty has played a big role in A&E’s success for many years, and we look forward to welcoming the Robertsons back for this revival. »
Willie and Korie Robertson said in a statement: “Returning to A&E feels a lot like coming home. We’re grateful to everyone who followed us as our family grew and grew and we can’t wait to see the cameras rolling again on all our new adventures, or perhaps misadventures.
Duck Dynasty has had its fair share of controversies, most notably when Phil Robertson, the family patriarch and father of Willie, was briefly suspended from the show following a GQ interview in which he made several anti-gay remarks. Conservative viewers, politicians, and pundits rallied their support, and A&E lifted the suspension shortly afterward (before any further filming on the show), citing the family’s stated remorse over Phil’s “foul language.”
Phil Robertson, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, is not among the family members A&E will attend Duck Dynasty: the rebirth. Along with Willie and Korie, Willie’s mother Kay, Uncle Si and Willie and Korie’s children John Luke, Sadie, Will, Bella and Rebecca are set to be filmed.
The original series is streaming on multiple platforms, including A&E’s website, Prime Video, and Pluto TV. Willie’s brothers, Jase and Jep, star in Treasure of the duck familywhich airs on Fox Nation.
