Duchess of Edinburgh meets Zelensky during visit to kyiv

THE Duchess of Edinburgh visited Kiev on Monday April 29, making her the first royal to visit Ukraine since the country was invaded by Russia, the British royal family announced.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska in kyiv on Monday morning.

Zelensky thanked the Duchess for her visit and said he was grateful for the support of the British people, and in particular regarding the United Kingdom “which has hosted our refugees since the first days of the large-scale invasion of Russia.”

The Duchess traveled to Ukraine to “show solidarity with women, men and children affected by war, and to continue her work advocating for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence,” said a statement released by the Royal family.
