Dua Lipa’s side lace-up pants referenced Christina Aguilera

Dua Lipa may be on her way to becoming a fashion icon (navel-length cutout dresses will do that to a star), but her latest outfit was a nod to another pop star. In a clip to promote his upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live— where she will host and perform — Lipa wore pants that Christina Aguilera would approve of. The video shows Lipa wearing a top with bow detailing that runs down her sternum and torso, leaving swaths of open skin.

She paired the short-sleeve cutout shirt with skinny pants that featured side lacing, something Xtina championed throughout her stay. Bare and the “Dirrty” era.

The May 4 episode of SNL marks Lipa’s first-ever time as host, but her third appearance as musical guest on the variety show. His new album, Radical optimism, is set to be released on May 3, so fans will have the chance to soak up the new music before she performs. Chloe Fineman, who appears in the video with Lipa, tries her best to replicate the singer’s iconic disco performance, but doesn’t quite succeed. She does, however, slip into a see-through outfit that would 100% get the Dua Lipa stamp. approval.

This isn’t the first time Lipa has paid tribute to Aguilera. At the 2021 Grammys, Lipa wore a Versace dress adorned with pastel butterflies, echoing a similar outfit Aguilera wore when she accepted her Grammy for Best New Artist in 2000.

Lipa has been riding the Y2K trend hard lately as she promotes Radical optimism. At the last Grammys, Lipa wore a black dress decorated with a whale tail. Just last week, the singer was seen carrying a reissue of a Gucci bag that was originally on shelves during Tom Ford’s time at the famous Italian brand.
