Police are trying to have a 77-year-old man’s driver’s license suspended after the driver crashed into a Newburyport dentist’s office on Tuesday morning.
At around 10 a.m., the driver rammed his vehicle outside a dentist’s office in the Port Plaza shopping centre, Newburyport officials said in a news release. The crash shattered windows, shattered the front door and punctured the building’s brick siding.
First responders took the driver to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the statement said. The vehicle hit a person inside the dentist’s office when it crashed into the building, but they refused to be taken to hospital after the crash.
Newburyport Police said in the statement they planned to file an immediate threat suspension application with the RMV against the driver.
The city building inspector assessed the building after the accident and determined that it suffered no structural damage, the statement said. The dentist’s office will be allowed to reopen once the broken windows are boarded up and two exits to the building are functional.
