Drake withdraws legal request against UMG and Spotify

Drake has officially withdrawn his New York state lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, after the artist accused them of inflating the numbers for Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, “Not Like Us.”

Reporter Bryson “Boom” Paul spoke to X to reveal that Drizzy’s Frozen Moments, LLC filed an order withdrawing the petition with the Supreme Court against both companies on January 14. Frozen Moments, LLC is terminating the legal proceedings at no financial cost to anyone. parties involved; Spotify, which had previously filed an opposition, did not object to the withdrawal while UMG “reserved its position on the subject”.

While The Boy’s motion against the companies is now resolved in New York court, his case against UMG and iHeartRadio in the state of Texas is still active and will be argued on January 28.

In November 2024, Drake alleged that UMG and Spotify illegally increased the popularity of “Not Like Us” using bots and payola, and claimed the label violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act ( RICO). He also accused iHeartRadio of using a “pay-to-play system” as a way to promote “Not Like Us” on the airwaves, with “(funnel) payments” from UMG to the platform.
