Drake Maye shares his reflections on the offseason of the Patriots, the REBEL coach, and by working with the offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels

With the off-season training program by being in full swing, the quarter-rear of the Patriots Drake Maye spoke to the media for the first time this offseason on Thursday at the Gillette Stadium.

Several things have happened since we heard of Maye, which was around the establishment to prepare its second season. Since he spoke for the last time, the Pats have had a brand new coach staff, have added several notable free agents and a draft class of 11 players who included four selections in attack in the 100 best choices to build the list around Maye. For obvious reasons, the Patriots’ second-year-old quarterrier is “pumped” on the movements of the offseason.

Thursday, Maye began his press conference by discussing his first impressions of head coach Mike Trébel and the offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Maye and McDaniels should be linked to the hip this season, the Pats QB focusing on learning the McDaniel system and its terminology during a teaching period of the NFL calendar for coaches.

“It was great. It was great with Coach (Trodule). He came here, and it seems that he has been here for some time. He is so comfortable being a coach,” said Maye. “He has already done so, he did it at a high level, won a lot of games. I can’t wait to get things done. You can see that he is trying to install a new identity. I think we are building on this subject.”

As for his first work with his new offensive coordinator, Maye is enthusiastic about the system and the working relationships he already has with McDaniels. In addition to giving his contribution to the game book, Maye will also have more control of the scrum -line offense. Last season, pre-SNAP communication crossed the center, but historically, the quarter-arrier had the last word at the melee line in the McDaniel offensive.

“The ball is in my hands, I think you want it. I hold the spit last – that’s what they say. This is what you want. I receive the best view of the defense. You are the one who has to know where everyone is, what everyone does,” said Maye. “It will be great for me to take the next step and take the command to send the guys in advance or go. I can’t wait to be there.”

Although its basic diets will probably remain the same, we could expect McDaniels to adjust its offense to the Maye forces. From this point of view, the typical golden rule is that the terminology of the system remains for the most part of the same year to the other, but that the parts themselves adapt to the staff. When we talk about offensive systems, this is how players and coaches speak to communicate games, but the conceptions of the games themselves will adapt to individual players in a given season.

“So far, with McDaniels, it was great,” said Maye about his new attacking coordinator. “I think in his own way – he was an offensive coordinator and head coach. He does it at a high level. This thing works. The proof is in the pudding. He has trained a lot of different guys. He has led the best to do it (Tom Brady). So he’s cool to watch the old things of Tom, and to see how he does.

As for giving his opinion on the plans that the patriots take place next season, McDaniels gives his 22-year-old quarter-rear in these discussions while the Patriots build the game book.

“The coach (McDaniels) was great to ask questions about the things I love. The things of last year that we have run, things that I like that I have seen on the film. I think it will be good for us because we will be able to do a lot. It will be a challenge to discover exactly what is or will be our stuff. This is the fun game.”

For Maye, all systems are from a coach-player relationship. During the press conference on Thursday, the other subject of discussion obtained the two hundred of the quarter-arre on an active off-season. In free agency, the Pats added the star receiver Stefon Diggs, the veteran on the right Morgan Moses and others. Then, as mentioned, the summit of the draft class of New England was heavy with the offense with Will Campbell, RB Treveyon Henderson, Wr Kyle Williams and C Jared Wilson.

“I am pumped. I think a lot of new faces, many guys, many veterans who have played at a high level. I think we have found answers to many different places that can plug and play. I think it’s the free agency point, so that guys who can help us win, help us win now,” said Maye.

More specifically, Maye was questioned about the addition of Diggs, a fifty pro four times with six career seasons of 1,000 yards. Maye is delighted to launch the ball for Diggs this coming season, noting that he had Wideout Star in his fantastic team in high school.

“Stefon, he is one of those guys who grew up when I was in high school, he was young in the league. I had him in my fantastic team and things like that, playing with him in Madden. So it’s pretty cool, let’s hope, this season is throwing him,” said Maye. “He returns to an injury and it looks like he’s going very well. He was there. I think it’s going to be cool to throw a receiver that made games like him, who made big games in the playoff matches, which was in different diets, which played with high level quarters.”
