Khan Younis, Gaza Strip – Several air strikes struck the city of southern Gaza on Thursday, Khan Younis, killing more than 50 people in a second consecutive night with heavy bombings.
The strikes intervene as US President Donald Trump visits the Middle East, visiting the Gulf States but not Israel. There had been a general hope that Trump’s regional visit could inaugurate a cease-fire contract or a renewal of humanitarian aid in Gaza. An Israeli blockade in the territory is now in its third month.
A cameraman Associated Press in Khan Younis counted 10 air strikes in the city during the night on Thursday and saw many bodies taken to the Nasser Hospital in the city. Some bodies have arrived in pieces, with body bags containing the remains of several people. The hospital morgue confirmed that 54 people had been killed.
The dead included a journalist working for the Qatari Al Arabby TV television network, announced the network on social networks, saying that Hasan Samour had been killed with 11 family members in one of Khan Younis strikes.
The Israeli army has made no immediate comments on strikes.
It was the second night of heavy bombing after the air strikes on the north and south of Gaza killed at least 70 people on Wednesday, including nearly two dozen children.
Israel has promised to degenerate Prime Minister Warisraelian Benjamin Netanyahu promised earlier in the week to move forward with a promised climbing in the War of Israel in the Gaza Strip to pursue its objective of destroying the militant group of Hamas, which governs Gaza.
In the comments published Tuesday by the Netanyahu office, the Prime Minister said that Israeli forces were a few days to enter Gaza “with great strength to finish the mission … This means destroying Hamas”.
The Human Rights Watch International Rights Group said Thursday that the Israel plan said Gaza and move hundreds of thousands of people “closer to extermination” and called on the international community to denounce.
The war began when activists led by Hamas killed 1,200 people in an intrusion on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel. Israel’s reprisal offensive killed nearly 53,000 Palestinians, including many women and children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, which does not say how many fighters. Nearly 3,000 have been killed since Israel broke a ceasefire on March 18, the ministry said.
Hamas still holds 58 of the approximately 250 hostages it took during its October 7 attack against Israel, 23 which would still be alive, although the Israeli authorities have worried about the status of three of them.
The only Gaza hospital providing cancer treatments due to the Israeli Health Ministry of Strikesgaza said Thursday that Israeli strikes had made European hospital Khan Younis – the only establishment remaining providing cancer treatments in Gaza – out of service due to serious damage to its infrastructure and access roads.
The closure interrupts all specialized treatments, including heart surgeries and cancer care, added the ministry.
The Israeli army carried out two air strikes against the European hospital on Tuesday, saying that it was aimed at a Hamas command center under the establishment. Six people were killed in the strike.
The director of the European Hospital Imad al-Hout told AP that there had been 200 patients at the hospital at the time of Tuesday strikes. They have all been gradually evacuated, the last 90 are transferred to other hospitals, including the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Wednesday morning. Efforts were now underway to coordinate the repairs of the establishment, he added.
The Israeli blockage to assist Gaza in the offensive of its third month in matters of Israel has erased large expanses of the Gaza urban landscape and moved 90% of the population, often several times. He interrupted the entry of all help, including food and drugs, on the territory on March 2, and international food security experts have warned that Gaza will probably fall in famine if Israel does not raise his blockade and do not stop his military campaign.
