Is there hope for humanity? If Erling Haaland is a measure, the answer is probably yes. Just consider his superiority as a player compared to his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, a tough but limited central midfielder. This this is what you call progress.
Anyway, before we get too existential, there’s football tonight. Manchester City left for Dortmund, to see if they can back up the 2-1 win at the Etihad last month. Haaland scored the winner then, as if you needed reminding, and the odds of his former club keeping him tonight are close to zero.
Celtic are already knocked out but will play for an exhilarating victory – and the chance of a Europa League place – against Shakhtar Donetsk in Glasgow, topped by Paris Saint-Germain v Maccabi Haifa, Dinamo Zagreb v Milan, Benfica v Juventus and RB Leipzig versus Real Madrid. Let’s go!
