Neil Warnock insists he is officially done with football management after 43 years in the game.

The 75-year-old resigned as Aberdeen interim manager last month after just eight games in charge.

He was later linked with Plymouth’s managerial vacancy, but was ultimately overlooked by Championship strugglers.

And Warnock has now revealed his time in the dugout is officially over following his short spell at Pittodrie Stadium in Scotland.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast show, Warnock was asked about a potential return to Plymouth, who he managed between 1995 and 1997.

Warnock insisted that while he is open to the challenge of keeping the Pilgrims in England’s second division, he has now retired.

He said: “They have already decided what they are going to do, I would have helped them.

“But they are going there with Neil Dewsnip, who is the director of football, and coach Kevin Nancekivell.

“They’ve been there for a while, they know the players and they have good players.”

Pressed by host Alan Brazil on whether he would consider taking over Plymouth with his wife Sharon, Warnock said: “Oh, I’m retired now!”

No manager has won more promotions in England than Warnock with eight

But he conceded: “I would have (helped them), but not now.

“It’s all done and dusted now, and I’m looking forward to going around some of the islands (in Scotland).

Phil Jagielka reveals how Neil Warnock pleasured him while naked at Sheffield United and thinks Aberdeen players are in for a treat for the rest of the Scottish season.

“I have some to-do lists now!”

Of course, this isn’t the first time the veteran boss has decided to call it quits – and some fans might take this as seriously as Tyson Fury retiring from boxing.

In total, Warnock has managed 16 different clubs and holds the record for the most promotions in England with eight.

His first taste of management came in 1981 when he took over non-league side Gainsborough Trinity.

After working his way up the English football pyramid, he found himself at Notts County in 1989, where he spent four years.

He guided the county to consecutive promotions to the First Division, but suffered relegation the season before the inaugural Premier League season in 1992.

Stints at Torquay, Huddersfield, Plymouth, Oldham and Bury soon followed, before being appointed to boyhood club Sheffield United in 1999.

It was at Bramall Lane that Warnock is best remembered for overseeing 385 matches during his eight years, guiding them to the top flight for the 2006/07 campaign.

Following his departure, he enjoyed two spells at Crystal Palace and QPR, while also managing Leeds, Rotherham, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Huddersfield again, then Aberdeen.
