Donald Trump delivered a personal letter from First Lady Melania Trump to the Russian chief Vladimir Putin raising the fate of the Ukrainian and Russian children caught in the middle of the ongoing war between the two European countries, he reported on Saturday.
The content of the letter was unknown – but two officials of the Trump administration told Reuters that he had mentioned the kidnapping of children resulting from the war after Russia has invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Putin was charged by the International Criminal Court in 2023 and faced an arrest in 125 countries, for her alleged role in the war crime of the kidnapping of these children and to transfer them from occupied regions of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
Melania Trump, of Slovenian origin of the Slovenian, did not attend the summit of peace between Trump and Putin with Elmendorf-Richardson base in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday.
But she previously declared that her ambition as an American first lady was to be akin to Eleanor Roosevelt, who was known for her work pleading for children’s rights and well-being during the presidency of Franklin D Roosevelt.
Ukraine called the abductions of tens of thousands of its children led to Russia or in territory occupied by Russian without the consent of the family or tutors a war crime which responds to the definition of the United Nations Genocide Treaty.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gratitude to the American First Lady on her call with Trump on Saturday, Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Saturday.
“During the conversation, President Zelenskyy also gratitude to his gratitude to the first lady Melania Trump for her sincere attention and her efforts to force the deported Ukrainian children,” said Sybiha on X. “It is a real act of humanism.”
Before the summit on Friday, the White House said that Russia’s kidnapping of more than 20,000 Ukrainian children “remains a concern” for Trump seven months after his second presidency. Moscow previously said that he was protecting vulnerable children from a war zone.
The question returned to the headlines earlier in August, when the non -governmental organization except Ukraine accused Russia of “trading in children sponsored by the State” after a group of administrators in Russia was controlled by Ukraine, an online catalog of what they called the Ukrainian orphans.
The organization of Chef Mykola Kuleba said that the database of the Ministry of Education of the Administration installed by Russia in the Luhansk region contains data on 294 Ukrainian children under the age of 17 who have been separated from their parents.
Kuleba noted that the website shows the names, photos, descriptions of personalities and children’s hobbies.
“Russia is not even trying to hide it anymore,” said Kuleba. “This is openly trading in Ukrainian children.

“The way they describe our children is no different from a catalog of slaves. It is a real child traffic in the 21st century, which the world must stop. ”
Once the news of the first lady’s letter, the Breat Kids Back UA initiative expressed her gratitude to Melania Trump for her concern. “A deep gratitude to (the first lady) to take care of the fate of Ukraine’s children so deep. Each word support brings them closer to their families, their communities and their home,” he said.
American legislators demanded the return of the children of Ukraine from Russia before any peace agreement was agreed and, in July, a resolution of the congress calling for their return.
Led by the member of the Texas Republican Congress Michael McCaul and the Democrat of New York Gregory Meeks, the resolution condemns the kidnapping of Russia, the forced transfer and the facilitation of the illegal expulsion of Ukrainian children. A version of the American Senate was presented by the republican of Iowa Chuck Grassley and Amy Klobuchar, the Minnesota Democrat.
Meeks said: “The Russian army has cruelly removed and illegally expelled tens of thousands of Ukrainian children from their homeland”.
“These atrocities are not isolated incidents,” said Meeks. “They are the direct result of the war of choice of Putin.”
