Donald Trump tore into the annual dinner where Washington DC journalists gather with celebrities and White House staff for an evening of comedy, awards and camaraderie.
The former president said this year’s dinner, broadcast live on C-SPAN, was “really bad” and claimed President Joe Biden’s remarks were “an absolute disaster.”
Trump, 77, has a long history with the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. He decided not to attend the event when he was president and his relationship with mainstream media and journalists deteriorated.
In 2011, Trump attended the dinner and was criticized by then-President Barack Obama over his role on the reality TV show The Apprentice. Many believe the incident contributed to Trump’s decision to run for president in 2016.

Trump has a long history with the WHCA dinner. Some credit Trump’s roast of President Barack Obama at the 2011 dinner with his decision to run for president in 2016.
On Saturday evening, the former president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, now co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), was present as a guest of Politico.
“The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was really bad,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
“Colin Jost bombed and Crooked Joe was an absolute disaster!” There’s nothing worse than that!’ ” the former president added, referencing both the president’s and the Saturday Night Live comedian’s remarks.
Biden took aim at Trump several times in his mostly joking remarks.
“The 2024 election is in full swing and yes, age is an issue,” Biden, 81, said. “I’m an adult running against a six-year-old.”
Meanwhile, Jost, who attended the dinner with his actress wife Scarlett Johannson, roasted the president along with other politicians. He specifically mentioned Lara, at one point.

He mentioned the covers she released last year.
“Lara Trump is here tonight,” the comedian said, to which one person was heard clapping and he responded: “Okay, I got a ‘woo’.”
“She recently released a cover of the song I Won’t Back Down,” he continued. “Hearing it made Tom Petty dead again.”
“I can’t believe I’m saying this to a member of the Trump family, but maybe stick to politics?”
