- Donald Trump is angry with Tim Cook.
- The president said he did not want Apple to transform his production into India.
- The iPhone manufacturer diversified his supply chain to counter steep Chinese prices.
Donald Trump has a “little problem with Tim Cook”.
Speaking in Qatar, the president said he recently told at CEO of Apple That he does not want the iPhone manufacturer to move his production production in India.
Apple, the most precious company in the world, has long been depends on a vast empire of the supply chain in China to manufacture, assemble and send iPhones and other goods to the United States.
But as Trump’s administration has increased a trade war with its greatest international rival, Apple was forced to take measures to diversify the operations of China. The company also undertook to invest $ 500 billion in the United States in the next four years in February.
“I had a little problem with Tim Cook yesterday,” said Trump on Thursday. “I said to him, Tim, you are my friend, I treated you very well. You come here with $ 500 billion, but now I hear that you build in all India. I don’t want you to build in India.”
Comments will be a challenge for Apple and its investors. The company has spent in recent years deepening its links with India, where it has increased iPhone production.
Apple works largely with the Foxconn Taiwanese firm to assemble its iPhones in India, and also has partnerships with the local company Tata.
But in his comments, Trump clearly said that he did not want Cook to put more operations in India after “we followed all the plants you built in China for years”.
“You can build in India if you want to take care of India,” added Trump.
Trump said that Apple “would increase their production in the United States”. Analysts previously warned that China’s changes could trigger a huge increase in iPhone prices for consumers.
Apple did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Business Insider.
