Donald Trump has launched a new coin, according to posts from his X and Truth Social accounts last night. The messages, which appeared just days before Trump’s inauguration, initially sparked suspicion that his accounts had been hacked.
The skeptics put forward by Decrypt Last night, several red flags were reported, such as the fact that the millions of dollars that pumped into the project came from Binance and Gate, which only serve foreign clients. The coin’s website attributes the project to the same group behind Trump’s NFTs, as noted Cointelegraph, which reports that sources close to Trump’s family have confirmed the legitimacy of these announcements.
Both messages remain active this morning.
The idea that Trump would launch a meme coin isn’t a big surprise, considering his multiple NFT collections and his introduction of a crypto platform last year. He has made cryptocurrency a big part of his new agenda and has assembled a technology policy team focused on crypto and AI, led by “crypto czar” David Sacks. Trump also plans to issue an executive order making crypto a “national imperative or priority” after his inauguration next week, Bloomberg reported before the weekend.
