Donald Trump and Boris Johnson discuss Ukraine over dinner – POLITICO

LONDON — Donald Trump and Boris Johnson discussed “the situation in Ukraine and the vital importance of a Ukrainian victory” this week, according to a spokesman for the former British prime minister.

Johnson, ousted from office last year, toured America to try to drum up support from top Republicans for Ukraine in the wake of the Russian invasion.

Pro-Ukrainian oil thinkers hosted the ex-British leader this week for a private lunch in Texas, where he told a gathering of politicians, donors and captains of industry that America must stay the course in his support for the country.

Talking to the Republican frontrunner seems to have been next on the list. THE The New York Times first reported that Trump – who has come under scrutiny over whether he supports Russia or Ukraine in the conflict and has promised to resolve the war within 24 hours – plans to host Johnson for dinner.

The meeting took place on Thursday and a spokesperson for Johnson said talks with Ukraine were on the menu.

“MP for Rt Hon Boris Johnson met with President Donald J Trump to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the vital importance of a Ukrainian victory,” the spokesperson said.

Trump and Johnson had a complex relationship when the two men were in office. The former US president described Johnson as a ‘friend’ and once called him ‘Britain Trump’ – but the two appeared to have diverged politically in recent years.

Trump told GB News last month he believed Johnson’s government had taken a “far left” slant, striking back at its support for wind farms and other green policies.

“They really weren’t staying conservative,” he said of Johnson’s ill-fated administration.
