Many Cherries fans thought King’s record in the top flight might never be broken, but the former Liverpool player has been brilliant this year.

Andoni Iraola got the best out of the striker, who mocked those who doubted him.

His goal gave Bournemouth a 1-0 lead against United at the Vitality Stadium, moving him level with Alexander Isak in the race for the Golden Boot.

Solanke is now just three goals behind Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who is currently leading the way.

And his expert 16th-minute finish showed exactly why many fans want him to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024.

He spotted a hopeful pass from Marcos Senesi on the left flank, where he ran into United defender Willy Kambwala.

But the Frenchman was no match for Solanke, who pushed the centre-back aside as the youngster hit the deck.

And he decided to let go from outside the box where he nestled his effort into the bottom left corner beyond Andre Onana.

With Euro 2024 approaching, Solanke is doing everything he can to force his way into Southgate’s plans after being overlooked for March’s friendlies.

Solanke faces plenty of competition from the likes of Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins, but Southgate may struggle to leave him out of the side if he continues to score goals.

United were back on level terms just 15 minutes after Solanke’s opener, with Bruno Fernandes volleying into the roof of the net.

But Justin Kluivert put the hosts 2-1 ahead shortly after after beating Onana at his near post.
