Former Trump administration attorney general Bill Barr told the CBS News streaming network on Friday that the Justice Department is “looking closely” at high-ranking Trump allies and the former president. -same.
CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge asked, “Do the new grand jury subpoenas on January 6 suggest the Justice Department is squarely focused on former President Trump?”
Barr said: “I think it’s definitely an important event. It changes my view of what is going on. From my point of view, it seemed to me that the ministry was really focusing on the lower level people. As you know, ever since the election, they’ve been going after people who entered the Capitol. And I didn’t think they paid so much attention to the higher-ups and kind of left that to the congressional committee. But it suggests to me that they take a hard look at the group at the top, including the president and those immediately around him who have been involved in this matter. It also seems to me that they are trying to get a ruling on executive privilege.
Herridge asked, “Did it catch your eye when a subpoena was issued to former White House attorney Pat Cipollone?”
Barr said, “Yes, that was the most important thing.”
