In the final of season 2 of Doctor Who, viewers of reality saw the final scenes of Ncuti Gatwa as a doctor by descending from one of the most emblematic roles of British television.
In an epic final of the season in two parts, viewers saw the doctor face the Rani in an extraordinary battle to save the world and the doctor made the ultimate sacrifice to save the life of a little girl.

Since he was announced as a doctor in May 2022, Ncuti Gatwa has been launched in the Whonièverse and immediately taken in the hearts of Doctor Who fans around the world. With his first appearance being part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the show in November 2023, the arrival of Gatwa in the show was never seen before the bi-generation which saw him separate from the fourteenth doctor, played by David Tennant.
His representation of the doctor won Gatwa a prize for the best actor at Bafta Cymru Awards in 2024, as well as nominations for a Bafta Scotland audience prize for Scot Favorite on screen, and the best actor in a dramatic series with Critics Choice Television Awards in the United States in 2025.

The first complete episode of Gatwa, The Church on Ruby Road, saw the doctor team up with the companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, and the two have traveled from these global adventures, with episodes such as the devil’s agreement, the thug and the boom with Gatwa winning praise on a global scale for his iteration of the emblematic character.
In season two, Gatwa won another companion, Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu and the stakes are higher, with battles larger than ever with the duo going back to Miami in Miami in Lux, going to Lagos in history and the engine as well as to attend the 803rd interstellar competition before the song competition before regenerating once.

Speaking of his decision to leave, Ncuti said: “You know that when you are broken, at some point, you will have to put this sonic screwdriver and all this will end, but nothing prepares you completely for that. existed for over 60 years and has been really loved by so many people around the world.
“Fans are really the final character and beat the heart of this show and I cannot thank the Whoniverse, and the Whovians, enough to welcome me, and make it such a touching experience. I loved every minute, but now is the time to put the keys back to this beloved blue box and let someone else take control and enjoy it.

Speaking of the departure of Ncuti, Russell T Davies, Showrunner said: “What a doctor! Thank you, Ncuti! As his last words say, it was an absolute joy, and the team of Cardiff and all those who have worked on this program in recent years, are so lucky to have been part of the great adventure of NCUTI while he shoots for stratospheric high heights.”

Lindsay Salt, director of the tragedy, added: “When Ncuti Gatwa set out for the Tardis for the first time, we instantly knew that he was going to be an emblematic doctor and that he did not take long before his dazzling performance captured the hearts of so many people all over the world. The role of the doctor is like no other territory of NCUTI, charisma and magnetism have made the doctor. At the start of this trip – unlike the doctor, he can have a single heart, but he gives everything to this role – I think we can all agree that he did this, and more.
But as viewers said goodbye to the fifteenth doctor, they got a hello with a much appreciated face …

As everyone said goodbye to this emblematic doctor, they also received a very familiar face when the doctor regenerated and it was none other than Billie Piper …
Billie appeared for the first time in the Whoniverse when Doctor Who returned to the screen in 2005, as Rose Tyler, the much appreciated companion of the Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. But how and why she is back remains to be seen …
Speaking of surprise torsion, Russell T Davies adds: “Billie has once changed all television, in 2005, and now she started it again! It is an honor and a hoe to welcome him in the Tardis, but quite how and why and who is a story to tell. After 62 years, the adventures of the doctor are just beginning!”
Speaking of her return, Billie says: “It is not a secret to what extent I like this show, and I always said that I would like to return to the Whiverse because I have some of my best memories there, so having the opportunity to take a step back on this late was something that I could not refuse, but which, how, and when, you just have to wait and see.”
Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for BBC and Disney brand television.
