‘Doctor Strange 2’ Ending Explained, All Your Questions Answered

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters last Friday, with the director Sam Raimi back to Marvel for the first time since its The Spider-Man trilogy ended in 2007. An encounter with new hero America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) forces the former Sorcerer Supreme out of the familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe and explore other realities, seeking the help of fellow Avenger Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) along the way.

“Even if the film’s nominal hero feels a bit lost, a strong central chase keeps the narrative moving and the mix of adventure, horror and action is balanced with a swagger worthy of the arrogant superhero Doctor Strange. himself,” said CNET’s Rich Knightwell. in his review.

These events take place after the events of Spider-Man: No Coming Homewho saw Strange help Peter Parker after Mysterio revealed the teenager’s secret identity to the whole world.

It’s time to see how Doctor Stephen Strange’s adventure in the multiverse of SPOILERS end. We also have a separate article diving into the post-credits scenes, if those intrigued you, a look at the Illuminati and a list of WTF questions the film left us with.

Scarlet Witch, Corrupted

Determined to find her magically created sons Billy and Tommy after losing them in the WandaVision FinaleWanda Maximoff took America Chavez to her Scarlet Witch Temple atop Mount Wundagore.

She’s been corrupted by the Darkhold, a book of forbidden magic, and begins casting a spell to steal America’s power to create portals between realities – which is kinda nasty, as it will prove fatal for the new hero.

Wanda Maximoff won’t be renewing her Avengers membership anytime soon.

However, this will allow Wanda to walk through a reality where her boys exist. Previously, she had only been able to enter this universe through dark magic known as dreamwalking, which allowed her to temporarily take control of her counterpart’s body on Earth-838, interact with his sons and hunt our heroes.

It looks like the Sorcerer Supreme Wong (Benedict Wong) has been killed, since Wanda dropped him off a cliff after he tried to stop his plan to sacrifice America.

strange undead

Strange and the Earth-838 variant of his ex-girlfriend Christine Palmer are trapped in a reality where Sinister Strange – a warped version of the one who tapped into this world’s Darkhold – has caused an apocalyptic event.

They defeat this world’s Strange, leaving him impaled on a fence, and MCU Strange uses the Darkhold to dream into Defender Strange’s corpse – a version of him who was killed while helping America.

Extremely badass.

This forbidden act prompts the spirits of the damned to drive Strange away, but the undead hero manages to tame the specters and transform them into an impressive shadowy cloak – maybe I need a figurine of that.

Confront Wanda

Since there was no way being thrown off a mountain was going to kill Wong, he manages to climb back up to the temple just as his corpse-dwelling buddy arrives. They free America, which sends Wanda to Earth-838 and exposes her evil to Billy and Tommy from that reality.

Seeing how upset her whole “demon witch” vibe upsets the boys, Wanda realizes the horror she has caused. Back in the MCU, she demolishes her temple, destroying the Darkhold in all realities and seemingly crashing. It’s a sad ending for the former Avenger, who is truly had a hard time in life.

A happy ending?

Strange parts ways with Earth-838 Christine, admitting he’s always loved his MCU counterpart. At the magical Kamar-Taj Temple, America learns the mystical arts – presumably as a way to control her reality-hopping abilities. Strange bows to Wong, seemingly accepting him as the new Sorcerer Supreme.

Strange repairs the fancy watch Christine gave him on one of their first dates, suggesting that he move on (at least I hope so, since she’s married). Seemingly satisfied, he wanders down the street of New York until a third eye sprouts in the middle of his forehead, confirming that he has been corrupted by the Darkhold.

Is Wanda dead?

It sure seems like Wanda lost her life destroying the temple and Darkholds across the multiverse, but her status as a powerful magician leaves the door open for her return – her terrible deeds could be blamed on the Darkhold corrupting her mind. WandaVision also created the possibility that her lover Vision could come backand he might be eager to find her.

Wanda’s arc in this film echoes the comic story where grief over her lost, magically created sons led her to create the House of M, an alternate reality where mutants ruled, and the ensuing Decimation, where it erased the powers of most of Earth’s mutant population. She was eventually redeemed, so her MCU counterpart could go that route.
