However, he never entered the fight and lost by TKO in the second round.

Brito hammered away with kicks from the first match and by the second frame they had paid dividends in the form of a massive cut to his opponent’s shin.

Shore appeared to be moving well, but the referee chose to stop the action for a cageside doctor to assess the damage.

UFC cameras zoomed in on the injury as commentator Jon Anik compared it to a “bullet hole” and broadcast partners Daniel Cormier and Paul Felder predicted the fight would be canceled.

The Welsh fighter looked drained when their premonition came true, and the doctor deemed him unfit to continue fighting Brito.

It was later confirmed that the doctor feared Shore’s leg might be broken.

Fans had mixed opinions on the severity of Shore’s injury.

One person tweeted: “It’s not a cut, it’s a gunshot wound.” »

Someone else said: “That was a bull stop.” »

Shore ranked in the top 15 in the UFC bantamweight division and compiled a 17-0 record before suffering the first defeat of his career in 2022.

Jack Shore reveals he wants to be MMA’s Joe Calzaghe despite losing his perfect record

The 29-year-old moved up to featherweight and signed veteran 145-pounder Makwan Amirkhani in his divisional debut in March 2023.

Whenever he is fit to fight again, Shore will pursue his goal of becoming the MMA version of Joe Calzaghe, who enjoyed a legendary career in boxing.

For me, legacy is bigger than titles and undefeated records,” he told talkSPORT MMA ahead of UFC 301.

“When people talk about Welsh MMA, I want my name to be in the conversation: ‘He was the best’. If he wasn’t the best, he was one of the best.

“Like we do with people like Joe Calzaghe and Gavin Rees.

“Whenever anyone mentions British boxing, whether or not they think he’s the best British boxer, people mention Joe Calzaghe, he’s always in the conversation.”
