Low libido and soft phallus?
For men suffering from erectile dysfunction, the solution could be one of these natural remedies.
Erectile dysfunction, which affects about 30 million men in the United States, occurs when you are unable to get or keep an erection firm enough for satisfactory sex. Psychological disorders, such as stress or past trauma; physical problems, such as diabetes or nerve problems; drugs; or substance use may be the cause.
While many men facing these problems turn to drugs like Viagra, some suggest that natural remedies are an equally effective way to regain sexual potency.
But do any of them actually work? Read on to find out more.
Red grape juice
A new study published in Aging Male found that men who regularly drink grape juice could significantly reduce their chances of erectile dysfunction.
Researchers at Tianjin Medical University General Hospital in northern China found that, compared to those who did not consume any grape juice, men who drank grape juice five or more times per week experienced a 79% reduction in their erectile dysfunction problems.
“Grape juice contains many health-promoting phenolic compounds, and red grape juice contains more of them than white,” the team said in a report on their findings.
The research team hypothesized that this is likely because red grape varieties contain higher levels of plant chemicals called phenols. These chemicals keep arteries healthy and prevent narrowing that could restrict blood flow to the genitals.
“Based on these results, we suggest that men – particularly those over 40 – may benefit from consuming grape juice more than five times per week to reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction,” they said. they declared.
In addition to its libido-boosting qualities, red grape juice is also known to improve cardiovascular health by strengthening circulatory tissues and protecting against damage caused by high cholesterol levels.
Coffee
A study from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston found that caffeine reduces the risk of erectile dysfunction.
Researchers found that men over the age of 20 who consumed the caffeine equivalent of two to three cups of coffee per day were less likely to report problems with erectile dysfunction than men who avoided the stimulant. The link was stronger in overweight men.
Why does it work?
Caffeine has similar properties to erectile dysfunction medications like Viagra, said study co-author Run Wang, MD. The stimulant triggers a series of effects that cause the arteries in your penis to relax and your blood flow to increase – two keys to a firm erection.
Prime? Some experts suggest that drinking coffee can intensify orgasms in both sexes.
Shilajit
Shilajit, a tar-like resin found in the Himalayas, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries and has recently been making the rounds on TikTok.
Known by some as “the healer of all weaknesses,” its die-hard fans claim that this supplement can increase testosterone levels.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, low testosterone affects about 2 percent of men, with symptoms ranging from depression, body hair loss, and reduced libido to erectile dysfunction and low sperm count.
A clinical study found that men treated with a dose of shilajit twice daily for 90 consecutive days experienced a significant increase in their testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (both necessary for muscle growth and sexual performance) compared to to those who received a placebo.
However, it’s worth nothing that shilajit is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration and research on it is limited.
Beet
Beetroot has acquired a reputation as “vegetable Viagra”. Indeed, the blood-red root vegetable has been praised for its aphrodisiac properties since ancient times. The Romans decorated the walls of brothels with images of lusty beets, and Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, is said to have consumed them to enhance her sex appeal.
Despite beetroot’s long-standing reputation, there is little scientific evidence to support claims that it improves sexual health.
While there is no concrete evidence (pun intended) to suggest that beets directly help with erectile dysfunction, beets are known to increase the amount of nitric oxide in the body, a compound that plays a key role in producing and maintaining an erection.
Nitric oxide is also thought to support testosterone in controlling blood flow before and during sex in men.
Beets are also a rich source of boron, a trace mineral that increases the level of sex hormones in the human body.
Finally, beets improve blood circulation and may benefit the circulatory system, which could, in theory, have a positive impact on sexual function in both sexes.
