Do but button fixes really work? A dermatologist weighs

Lately, it is not uncommon to see a new curious piece of bien-a-brac adorning the faces of the Gen Z-ORS: pimple patches.

In the past, it would have been difficult to imagine wanting to draw attention to your zits. But these baby bandages, which come in a wide variety of styles for each skin type, are suddenly fashionable.

So they really work?

This is what we-Raj Punjabi and Noah Michelson, the co-animators of “Am I hurting Huffpost?” Podcast – asked Dr. Kunal Malik, certified dermatologist on the board of directors at Spring Street Dermatology in New York, when he recently went through our studio.

Listen to the full episode here:

“Even a few years ago, people were embarrassed to go out with a button patch and I think that with the current generation, they have all these colors and fun shapes,” said Malik. “People accept more and they are as open on this subject, which, I think, is incredibly detagmatizing.”

The main goal of the plots is to help cure imperfections while providing a physical barrier that holds them from dirty hands and other articles potentially loaded with bacteria.

“From a scientific perspective, they work absolutely,” said Malik.

Those who offer the best results are hydrocolloid bandages. “Basically, what they are doing is that they have somehow shoot or aspire the debris in this button, and they protect it from the environment,” he said.

They also provide “a physical barrier to choose it”, which is essential, like Malik says that making your pimples sauté is the last thing you want to do.

“I know it’s like the response of human psychology – just tighten it, right?” But it’s terrible, “he said, and can really lead the infection more deeply in the skin.

“I live in the real world – I know that people will do it despite the fact that I told people not to do it all day – but button patches are a great way to protect the button.”

They can also provide targeted drugs to the fight against acne such as salicylic acid directly to the defect.

However, Malik warned us of easily going to our skin.

“Sometimes the less that’s more-that’s what I always preach to my patients,” he said. “You really want to refine and be intentional with your skin care and do not do too much, because there is this phenomenon of causing too much inflammation with aggressive treatments.”

Once this happens, you are “counterproductive” and “not really treating acne, but causing more damage”.

So wash your face with a soft cleaner, slap a button patch on your zit and let it do its thing. You can make an elegant declaration – and refuse to be ashamed to live a completely normal part of the human being with the skin.

We also discuss with Malik to know if chocolate really causes acne, home remedies that do more harm than good and much more.
